Kindly hosted by EFIA Diamond Partner, Sun Chemical, the judging of the 2017 Awards Programme was completed in January.

Andy Young, Chairman of the Association said: “We’ve been astonished this year in the uplift of quality of some of the entries.  A number of new techniques are now being used in the industry and it’s clearly evident that the flexographic process is truly leading the way in outstanding print performance.”

Ian Schofield, Own Label & Packaging Manager at Iceland Foods and one of the EFIA 2017 judges, said: “I was truly shocked at the level of sophistication of some of the entries. The flexographic process has leapfrogged other technologies – I must admit I didn’t expect to see such outstanding print work, particularly in the flexible packaging sector. Just amazing!”

The Board of EFIA extended the number of categories available to printers and suppliers to further broaden the appeal of the competition to the flexible packaging sector in 2017.

Debbie Waldron-Hoines, Executive Director of the Association, commented: “It’s been pleasing to see the number of entries this year in the narrow, mid and wide web flexible packaging categories.  We are keen to represent the broad nature of our industry and we felt that whilst we’re doing a great job in corrugated, flexible packaging is such an innovative segment in the market we needed to really reflect that in our competition.  It seems our focus has paid off and this year’s results are demonstrating outstanding innovation.”
